STI Testing
If you are sexually active, STI Testing is one of the most important things you can do to protect your health.
STI & STD Testing
Are you not sure what the difference is between an STI and an STD? Although STI and STD can sometimes be used interchangeably, STIs can develop into STDs if not treated or cured. The CDC recognizes STI (Sexually Transmitted Infection) as a virus, bacteria, fungus, or parasite transmitted through sexual contact. A sexually transmitted disease (STD) develops because of an STI and the term implies that the infection has led to some symptom of disease. The primary goal of public health and healthcare is to prevent and treat infections before they develop into disease. As a result, many – including CDC – are using the term STI more often. However, STD is still commonly used by a number of sources.
Should I get tested?
The CDC states 1 in 5 people people have an STI. That is 20% of the population in the USA. That is 68 million infections; 26 million were new infections, nearly half of which were found in youth between the ages of 15 and 24 years of age.
Our Clinics provide testing and treatment for gonorrhea or chlamydia. These services are confidential and free at no cost to you or your insurance company.
Many people with gonorrhea or chlamydia don’t have symptoms. This matters because an untreated infection can lead to serious health problems, even if you never have symptoms. Gonorrhea and chlamydia can be cured with the right medicine from your healthcare provider if taken properly.
What happens if I don’t get treated?
*According to the CDC.gov
- In women, untreated chlamydia or gonorrhea can cause pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) which can lead to ectopic pregnancy or infertility.
- In men, untreated chlamydia and gonorrhea can cause a painful condition in the tubes attached to the testicles. And in rare cases, this may lead to infertility.
- Untreated chlamydia or gonorrhea may also increase your chances of getting or giving HIV.
- You could pass the STI without knowing.
